South London Home
This large 4 bedroom Edwardian home in Streatham, South London has undergone a huge transformation since my client purchased the property in 2019.
My client, a fashion stylist, had a clear focus of what they wanted to achieve in this once drab and unassuming semi-detached home.
We set about creating a home that celebrated the existing architecture alongside introducing a new modern/contemporary aesthetic and celebrating the clients love of antique and vintage pieces.
The brief was challenging and exacting. How to create a home in which some rooms were to be very minimal and uncluttered, but yet not feel sterile or cold?
The layout was changed with extensions to both the rear and side of the property, to increase the already generous footprint. The side extension accommodated a primary suite walk in wardrobe and ensuite, enlarged the family bathroom and also added a walk in wardrobe to the guest bedroom, whilst on a ground floor a new at home gym was created.
Then we tackled the furniture and material selections. Key pieces were chosen for their timeless architectural shapes and natural materials such as marble, stone and wood were married against polished plater and textured limewashed walls.
With a colour palette that is a mix of muted neutrals and dark hues of blues and green provided by Farrow and Ball “Black Blue” in the hallway and Little Greene “Obsidian Green” in the kitchen/diner, the property feels sophisticated yet calm and relaxing.
I am extremely proud of this home with it’s mix of carefully sourced pieces of furniture and accessories. It feels contemporary yet at peace with it’s Edwardian tradition.
